Migrant & Refugee Health

Helping new New Zealanders navigate a health system that wasn't always designed with them in mind.

The barriers we know about

When you're new to Aotearoa, accessing healthcare can feel like a maze. Language barriers, unfamiliar systems, qualifying for funded care, cultural mismatch, every layer makes it harder. Refugees often arrive with health needs accumulated over years of displacement.

  • Help registering with a GP and Te Whatu Ora
  • Interpreters for appointments
  • Cultural mediation between clinical advice and family expectations
  • Mental health for resettlement trauma and adjustment
  • Information about entitlements (Community Services Card, etc.)
